This is a photo of Elephant Mountain Garden (象山農場).
A group of horticultural therapists establish and run the garden. They grow herbs, vegetables, fruits, and trees there, and provide horticultural activities to marginalized or disadvantaged groups (the physically or mentally disabled, the seniors, the migrants, ...) improve the well-being.
The land used to be a wild land and a "horrible landscape" for the nearby teenagers. Now the garden makes good use of the original natural landscape and at the same time meets the demand of safety and utility through well design.
The functions of the garden:
· Regulating micro-climate and providing habitats to wildlife as a green space (keep its original function)
· Providing local and organic food (vegetables and herbs), and in this way shorten the food mile
· Trying to mend the "metabolic rift" by recycling and composting and bringing people back into nature
· Improving the mental and physical health and well-being of people
Elephant Mountain Garden (2):
This is a photo of a tree fallen by typhoon in the garden. The members of the garden retain the tree as a part of nature and find it still lives and grows. It reminds me of the concept of "resilience".
